Identified by the maker using the code words "Pitel" for the model with a built on drive motor and "Pitag" for that fitted with a flat pulley to pick up the drive from overhead line shafting, this 8.5-inch centre height Willson lathe was manufactured from around 1950 to 1960. Two versions were produced, the second with a number of minor changes including a deeper apron, a large micrometer dial on the cross-feed screw and a modified spindle clutch mechanism. In all other respects they shared an identical specification with an actual centre height of 8.625", 46 inches between centres, a 2-inch bore spindle with an American long-nose spindle in an L1 size that was driven through nine speeds from 26 to 477 r.p.m. by a 5 h.p. motor, and a screwcutting and feeds gearbox that gave threads between 4 and 28 t.p.i
