Elliott-Willson "Mark 1N" - this was an adaptation of the Willson "Slant-Bed", but with a conventional level ways, and branded (using the term "straight bed") as both a Willson and an Elliott - in the latter case as the "Mark 1N" with a 7-inch centre height and, in what must have been an earlier version, as the 6.5-inch "Mark 1U" (below). Unlike earlier models of the "slant-bed" where the headstock spindle speed-control levers could be accidentally knocked sideways this machine (as well as very late production Slant-beds) were fitted with levers that required them to be pressed inwards before they could be moved. The type can be easily recognised by a quadrant-shaped housing, engraved with spindle speeds, that covered the levers.
