Two rather ingenious features were fitted to the distinctive tailstock - the first allowed one-handed repositioning, the second could quickly advance the barrel: the "one-handed" assistance consisted of a set spring-loaded bakelite rollers mounted within the base; when the bed clamp, or clamps, were released the tailstock rose up slightly on the rollers and could be pushed about with relative ease. The "barrel quick-advance" was operated by a rear-mounted lever which gave a travel about 30 mm (2.2 inches) with a single stroke.
