Selection of power sliding or surfacing was through a traditional push/pull knob on the face of the apron, with engagement and disengagement of the feeds under the control of a single lever working through an adjustable-for load safety mechanism. A set of quickly-adjustable longitudinal-feed stops, with two backing micrometer stops, were arranged along a machined surface bolted to the front edge of the stand; the drive could be disengaged when moving either towards the headstock, or tailstock.
Because the carriage hand-traverse wheel was fitted to the left-hand side of the apron, a curved metal guard was fitted to protect the operator's hand from hot turnings; the wheel was fitted with a large zeroing micrometer dial with which carriage travel could be measured down to 0.001 inches. The reading of large-diameter cross-slide micrometer dial could be locked by a screw which passed through its face - by far the best method if upsetting a reading is to be avoided; the dial was fitted with a vernier scale which allowed settings down to as little as 0.01 mm (0.0005") on diameter.
A very useful feature (designed to assist with critical finishing operations, changing from roughing to finishing cuts or on multiple-diameter copy work) was the ability to halve the feed rates by operating a control lever on the top of the carriage.
A hardened 4-way tool post was standard; its indexing was released by a small lever on the front face of the top slide.
