Introduced in October 1955, the very heavy-duty Kearney & Trecker knee-type horizontal and vertical TF Series milling machines was made in 48 different models in Sizes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 - and fitted with motors of 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 50 h.p. As was normal for most makers of larger horizontal milling machines, both "Plain" (non-swinging) and "Universal" (swinging tables) were offered. In the case of K & T the former was made in 14 versions and the latter in six.
The vertical models reflected the horizontal plain types in again being available in 14 versions of 5 sizes and with motors from 10 to 50 h.p. Compared with the Company's earlier of models of a similar size, the knee was wider and more heavily built and the saddle wider and longer. Fitted as part of the regular equipment to all versions were twin screws to elevate the knee, these being lubricated by a continuous flow of oil in both directions of travel. Other standard-fit items were a front-mounted control for a backlash eliminator to allow climb milling, another front-mounted and adjustable control to clamp the saddle, a front-facing handwheel to drive the table's longitudinal travel and (like many Cincinnati millers) what K & T called "mono-lever" control of spindle speeds i.e. a single dial to change the spindle speeds. Also fitted was an automatic table cycle control, a spindle-mounted flywheels, 12 trip dogs to control the drop-out points for the table, saddle and knee, a coolant system and complete electrical equipment.
