The Sartglen Pixi was also made with a strong aluminium guard that served as a motor-drive countershaft support and a cover for the screwcutting changewheels. However, the lathe could be purchased with a 1/2" raiser blocks under headstock (to increase the maximum turning diameter) but the guards were only made to cover the gear train without the risers. Thus (as shown above), the only way to use the covers after installing the risers was to drill two new mounting holes on the inboard mounting plate that held the countershaft assembly.
