Designed along traditional "Geneva" lines with a round bed, flattened along one side, the Favorite No. 1 had a 40 mm centre height and 140 mm between centres. The headstock took 8 mm collets, retained by a draw tube, and the lathe could be supplied on a factory-fitted stand complete with a variable-speed drive motor. Like other Favourite lathes, the No.1B was not made by Favorite themselves but, in this case, by A.Gentil & Company of La Brevine who marketed their own lathes using the "Star" brand.
Favorite No. 1B lathe 40 mm x 150 mm on the maker's 300 mm by 380 mm base as supplied under Ref. 11633. The rheostat-controlled motor (Ref. 16800) could be had for either 110V or 220V and provided infinitely-variable speeds up to 6,000 r.p.m.
