Another early but rather different Deckel fitted with an a quite different, cast-as-once pice head that takes an overarm for horizontal milling and, to help with this, a slow-speed backgear assembly. The owner writes: Deckel FP - the serial No. is 3008: I can find only two others on the internet and no information, but there will probably be others. However mine is quite complete and is fitted with backgear - and may well, originally have had a vertical head as there is a removable dog to drive an attachment from the horizontal mandrel, as well as fixing holes. In addition, on the rectangular table (shown below) there are shallow end mill grooves which could only have been made by a cutter held vertically. The drive motor is mounted above the horizontal arm and drives a large, 3-step pulley that gives the speed range engraved on the round brass plate fitted to the side face of the column. Could this be the first version of a truly universal Deckel? The water tank on top is the original; made of brass it cleaned up well and has been lacquered - though originally it would probably have been painted.
