Introduced in 1953, the new Churchill Redman lathes 12L and 28L lathes have the appearance of machines first made some 10 or more years later. A serious machine tool and weighing over six tons, the 28L had a centre height of just over 14.5 inches, took in standard form 63 inches between centres, had 16 spindle speeds from 12 to 800 r.p.m. and thirty rates of sliding and surfacing speeds.
