An early version of the Aciera E.3 10,000 r.p.m. 6-speed miniature drilling machine - this example having a short base and a front-mounted left lever. The model was made in several forms - arranged for either drilling or tapping - and has been found with a number of different base plates and speed ranges. The E.3 was for drilling only with a capacity of 4 mm and four speeds on early versions of 550, 1100, 5000 and 10,000 r.p.m. later revised to six of 1100, 2000, 3800, 4800, 6500 and 10,000 r.p.m. Revised and slower ranges were also listed for the tapping model, the customer being given the choice of either 1250 to 1750 r.p.m. or 2500 to 3500 r.p.m. (there may well have been others as well); spindle travel was 20.5 mm. The E.T.3 Model was intended only for tapping, the capacity being up to 3 mm - or from 16 to 4 B.A. for the UK market - and is described in the flyer above. The E.T.4 was a heavier tapping version with a capacity of 10 to 0BA and speeds of 600, 900, 1200 and 1800 r.p.m. Depth feed on all types was by lifting and lowering the table - the operating lever pivoting from either the front face or close to the front of the right-hand side. The spindle was ground and ran in hard bronze bearings, its upper section, where it protruded through the head, being fitted with a micrometer stop. On the tapping versions a friction-controlled, two-way cone clutch was fitted
