Later Abene millers, although restyled to present a more modern appearance, were of the same novel design as previously and with the same range of versatile movements. The range consisted of 4 models: VHF-3, VHF-3BS, VHF-3U, VHF-3UBS and VHF-3TNC, all of which were dimensionally identical and differed from one another only in details of their specification. Both the VHF-3 and VHF-3BS were standard machines, with a 1200 mm x 320 mm table having 700mm of longitudinal, 235 mm of cross and 490 mm of vertical travel. 12 rates of table feed were available from 0 to 1500 mm per minute on the horizontal and vertical axes, and from 0 to 600 mm per minute on the vertical; a rapid-return feed was fitted to each axis. Constructed from hardened and tempered chromium-nickel steel the INT 40 spindle of the VHF-3 was 90 mm in diameter and ran in adjustable, precision tapered-roller bearing made by SKF. However. the standard vertical head had no quill feed, all depth work having to be done by elevating the table. Fastened to the head was a 12-speed, oil-immersed gearbox with hardened and ground gears running on ball-bearing supported shafts; a 4.5 kW motor, contained within the base of the sliding head, provided a range of spindle speeds spanning 44 to 2000 rpm. The Model VHF-3BS was fitted with a vertical head (designation BS) which had both handwheel and lever-operated feeds--one turn of the fine-feed handwheel making the spindle move 5 mm - whilst just half a turn of the lever produced the full 75 mm of travel. The Models VHF-3U and VHF-3UBS were fitted with swivelling tables - but were otherwise identical to the standard model - whilst the VFH-3TNC was fitted with a knee designed to allow curvelinear control..
