Introduced in 1983 to replace the original Maximat V10/V10P, the Compact 10 had the same centre height of 5.5" and between centres capacity of 26.5" of the Maximat Super 11, but was a much more lightly-built machine with the geared headstock  replaced by a belt-drive unit, screwcutting by changewheels (no gearbox was offered) and the power shaft, together with its apron-mounted power cross-feed mechanism, removed.. 

The six-speed swivelling vertical head shown  in one of its more extreme positions. When used in this position it is wise to ensure that they are not overfilled with oil. If they are, the simple oil thrower will not stop lubricant leaking into the electric motor.

Three T slots in the cross slide allow the tool slide to be positioned in the most convenient position for tackling jobs at the limit of the lathe's capacity.
