Carrying a label that shows the lathe to have been made in 1931, there is a second one - obviously fitted by a dealer - stating "The Rapid" and a third showing that the said dealer was located in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The lathe is fitted with what might be regarded as a slightly over-large 3-jaw chuck - though one of exceptional quality, a conical-scroll type by the Birmingham firm of Charles Taylor.
