Swift Model V & VS Lathes

Early Swift Lathes

Swift V6: a lathe that appears to have been an almost completely new design (with the probable exception of the screwcutting gearbox) this 1948 Swift lathe featured a carriage which could be moved not only by a separate power shaft but also independently by an electric working through a bevel box which picked up the drive also used by the hand-traverse mechanism. The newer design of stronger, self-eject tailstock is also evident; its ordinary handwheel, which replaced the mighty capstan bars previously employed, looks in comparison, rather puny.

Swift SV3 a version of the standard screwcutting lathe still with its with independent power sliding and surfacing
feeds but adapted to boring and facing work with no tailstock but a bed-mounted 6-station turret instead.

The larger Swift SV6 Boring & Facing Lathe

Built to special order only, the might Swift SV5 boring and facing lathe featured a massive gap in the bed
