Combining the features of the 2VA and the Simplon Universal 2U Rapid, the 2URT retained the ram-head arrangement of the former - and all its associated features, speeds, table size, table swing and travels- while incorporating a INT 40 horizontal spindle driven from a separate 5.5 h.p. motor held within the main column. In order to set the machine up for horizontal milling, the vertical head was wound inwards as far as possible and the ram swung round through 180 ° to expose the underside ways to which could be fastened a pair of arbor supports. The maximum clearance between the spindle line and top of the table was 17.75 inches (445 mm) and the twelve speeds provided spanned 25 to 1500 r.p.m. or, on request, 32 to 2000 r.p.m. Control was by a single, direct-reading dial on the column's right-hand face. Supplied as part of the standard equipment for the 2URT were the following: a full electrical installation in a ready-to-run state, coolant equipment, a cutter arbor, two drop-bracket arbor supports, one hand-crank lever to share between the horizontal and vertical-feed sockets, a set of spanners and an instruction manual. For both machines the usual range of extra was listed including induction hardened ways, boring heads, optical reading systems (these models came before the advent of Digital read-outs), standard and universal dividing heads, rotary tables in several sizes, inclinable supplementary tables, an assortment of machine vices, guideway guards and a work lamp. In addition, for the 2URT only and driven from its horizontal spindle, three extra heads were available: a slotting head, a simple non-quill-feed vertical head and a head with a horizontal spindle that could be swivelled through 360° in a horizontal plane..
