A miniature and very simple vertical milling machine, the Perris was not dissimilar in size to the better-known but horizontal Flexispeed. Little is known of the Perris (no advertisements have ever been found), but it appears to have mounted a 2-T-slot table around 12 inches by 3 inches. All table movements were controlled by feed screws fitted with micrometer dials, the vertical travel employing a handwheel connected to a vertical screw by bevel gears. Although the writer has encountered many Perris lathes, so far only two examples of the company's miller have come to light; perhaps they were made in a small batch of just 20 before production ended. Other very small horizontal millers include the very different American Childs, the Goodell-Pratt, the well-known, super-precision Derbyshire Micromill, the Portmac Reading, and the German Speck, Almost qualifying, but of a more robust, professional quality build are the Carter & Hakes, the Stark, Ames, Cataract, Pratt & Whitney, Van Norman, the Italian Astra, the T, L & M, and the Swiss Mikron. If you have a Perris milling machine? If so the writer would be pleased to hear from you
