The weakness of the original Myford tailstock, as fitted to the ML1, ML2, ML3 and ML4 lathes, was eventually acknowledged by the factory which then offered the much-improved version shown below. This featured heavier castings, a thick gib block to set the alignment (replacing the flimsy side plate) and a separate sole plate that allowed the unit to be set over for the turning of slight tapers.
