Vernier marking on the boring head's micrometer dial assembly

Compound slide rest with vertical slide and indexing attachment,

Designed to fit onto the top of the compound slide (in place of the toolpost) the vertical slide had a single central T-slot down the centre line of its table - though no other way of attaching components so that they could be milled by a cutter held in a spindle-mounted 3-jaw chuck. Instead the unit appears to have intended for indexing work (e.g.. the manufacture of gears) with a dividing attachment fitted with a spindle that took standard headstock collets. A 48-notch indexing plate was provided as standard (numbered in increments of 6 on one side and 8 on the other). This plate, keyed to the shaft and held in place by a knurled nut, was quickly detachable - suggesting that others would have been available. The head was adjustable through 360 degrees so allowing any compound angle to be set. A micrometer dial was fitted to the feed screw but, unlike the fixed type used on the compound slide, this could be zeroed, a small grub-screw on the side of the collar allows it to be locked and unlocked.

Tiny ring-scroll 3-jaw chuck stamped "Goodell-Pratt"

Intended to act as both a faceplate and a drive plate, the standard radially-slotted faceplate was carried on a collet and fitted with a permanently-mounted centre
