Found in Sweden and shown below is a most unexpected find - an 8 mm Lorch watchmakers' lathe that is complete in the maker's box and appears to be "as-new" It seems to have been set up at least once, and the 1.4 mm and box chucks used, but there are no other signs of use - not even finger marks. All the tools are sharp, as are all edges on the collets; all the fittings have clean plating and their original finishes are unmarked by rust or dirt. The only sign of age is dried oil in the spindle bearings - so everything is a little stiff. The seller's plate on the box is from a supplier in Stockholm - Gyllenberg & Rosengren - a company that went out of business by 1945. So, this must be as close as it comes to opening a new, boxed watchmakers' lathe from before 1945 as is possible.
