Rockwell Delta 14" underdrive model. A very well-built, reliable lathe with an all-geared headstock, one unusual feature of the Rockwell-Delta 14-inch was the reversing mechanism fitted to the screwcutting gearbox. This enabled the longitudinal feed to shifted freely between neutral, forward or reverse whilst the machine was running - while an additional lever on the apron could be flicked between power cross feed and longitudinal feed - again under power. Separate shafts were fitted for screwcutting and power feeds. Normally, changes in spindle speed were activated by a stand-mounted handle, immediately below the gearbox, but on the Option's List was a power-driven spindle-speed changer, operated by a lever fitted to the lower right-hand edge of the apron.; when fitted with this device there was no comparative positioning of wheel and scale to indicate the spindle r.p.m. and it was recommended that a headstock-mounted tachometer be fitted as well.
