At the outer end of the carden shaft the drive was split by a dog clutch carrying a pair of spiral bevel gears that, when pushed into engagement, transmitted the drive to the table feed screw
The V-belt drive from motor to spindle was split by two intermediate pulleys with one carried in a slotted arm that allowed it to be self-adjusting as the belts were juggled across a choice of six drive ratios. Combined with the 2-speed motor this arrangement gave a range of twelve speeds from 60 to 2500 r.p.m.
Above and below - with the head removed it was possible to fit in its place a horizontal milling adapter, a unit consisting of a casting protruding from which were a pair of support bars with a drop bracket on their end.
