The shorter but wider table version of the Childs Model 0000 vertical miller. Made in cast iron and weighing around 275 lbs, the Childs Model 0000 Mk.2 ram-head vertical milling machine was, for its size, surprisingly rigid. It sat on a base of 16" x 15" with a handy and deep lip to act as coolant and chip tray. The 3.75" x 16" table three T-slots on the top a single one on the front face and longitudinal travel of usually 9" but, as a factory option, this could be extended by one inch. Cross travel was 3.25" with - again as an option - an extra inch available. The head could be extended in and out through a range of 8.5", tilted 90° each side of vertical and held a quill (under the control of a quick-feed lever) with a travel of 2 inches. Fitted with - surprisingly - a No.2 instead of the expected No.1 Morse taper and a 3/8" x 16 t.p.i. Drawbar - the spindle ran in Timken 6306 deep-groove ball races with the facility to preload them..
