Still prospering, the Abwood factory in Dartford, to the east of London, has over many decades, produced a range of limited-type, but high-quality machine tools and engineering accessories including automatic cycle and production horizontal surface grinders with auto sizing; surface grinders with round tables; precision tool and die vertical spindle grinders in manual and hydraulic forms; a universal circular dividing machine; universal compound-angle surface table in round and rectangular forms and a wide range of machine vices including hand-operated and magnetic plain, swivel-base and ones for use on shapers together with a variety of hydraulic and pneumatic power-driven types for production shops. In addition, they also made, and the subject of these pages, a number of carbide and tool-steel grinding and lapping machines including a stand-along chip-break type.
Abwood machine tools were almost all of a specialised nature - though they did offer a conventional horizontal surface grinders the 5025 - their vertical spindle machines falling into this category and consisting of: the early TH/2 and later S.G.1.A (automatic), S.G.1H (hand control), S.G.3, S.G.3H, S.G.4H and S.G.4H/HS (the latter a "special" with the hydraulics modified to provide a facility for extra "slow" speeds..
