York Lathe
Mystery surrounds the origins of the very rare but rather well-made little "York" lathe - though it does bear a passing resemblance to the 1.75" x 6.5" "Wizard" and "Lane Micro" made by Lane & Son of Houghton-le-Spring, County Durham. The York entered a crowded market with, amongst others, the likes of Flexispeed, Perris, Jason, Cowells, Wakefield and Haighton competing for custom and few can have been made. Some versions were clearly marked, with the York name cast into the bed, while others (absolutely identical) were completely bereft of any identification.
If you have a York machine tool of any kind, the writer would be interested to hear from you.
