Manufactured into the early 1970s, shapers by the Swedish company Varnamo were of exceptionally high quality and all with a comprehensive specification. The EV range comprised the EV-2 with a 14.5-inch stroke, the EV-3 with 18.5 inches, the EV-5 with 24 inches and the EV-6 with 30 inches. In addition, several useful accessories were available including a keyway cutting attachment; a tilting table top that could be adjusted - using a handwheel working through a screw - from any angle from 0° to 15°; an automatic vertical toolpost feed (but not on all EV models); an indexing centre set consisting of a base plate, headstock and tailstock that could swing a maximum diameter of 12 inches and take 12 inches between centres; an automatic tool lifter to raise the tool on the return stroke, and a table (on all EV models) that could be swivelled from 0° to 90° in either direction from level. Used in combination with a swivel-base vice, this allowed job to be set at any angle desired. Automatic pumped lubrication could also be fitted that supplied oil to the ram ways, crank-gear bearings, rocker arm and surfaces of the crank block.
