Unknown Lathe No. 71
Unknown Lathes Home Page
Most unusual in concept and design, this 4" x 10" lathe has power sliding feed with drive from what looks to be an almost home-made assembly of changewheels. With a single, non-rotating tool slide (though with possibly with enough clearance to mount a top slide), a simple but strongly-built headstock with overhung drive pulley yet a relatively complex carriage, the lathe must have been created for some special, probably production-type operation. There might even be the possibility that it began life as a con-rod boring or other I.C. rebuild machine like the Cuthbert/Warner/Reffells & TW Monoturn ..
