Possibly by the "American Machine and Tool Company", this simple bar-bed lathe is especially well built. It has a decent compound slide rest with good-sized micrometer dials and even a cover extension to the rear of the cross slide to protect the feed screw.
Both headstock and tailstock have been constructed with plenty of metal and there is no sign of skimping or cost cutting. An obvious omission is backgear, which would have limited the lathes low-speed and screwcutting performance, nor does there appear to be any way of retro-fitting it, as was the case on many less-expensive models..
