Unknown Lathes Home Page
Now known to have been made by Union Werk A.-G based in Mittweida L.S., Germany, the provenance of this lathe is known, for the present owner's father was in the Navy and, in the early 1950s, stationed in Londonderry and involved in the dismantling of various German warships. Consequently, from the workshop of one ship, this lathe was "rescued" and used for many years of model engineering.
Very well constructed with a full-depth bed along its entire length, the lathe has an all-geared headstock, a centre height of around 7 inches with a capacity between centres of perhaps 20 inches.
Most unusually, for a German-made lathe, the cross slide appears to be T-slotted - with the owner saying that it does seem to be original and not a modification.
