Although it looks very similar to an Emco Unimat, this home-built version, at 12 kg, is twice the weight of the maker's late-type SL1000 model. Discovered in a neglected condition, the present owner has cleaned it up to reveal a very well-made lathe with some first-class detail work. With its base, headstock and tailstock constructed from iron, this has been left in a pleasing "as-cast" finish. Who made the lathe? Unfortunately its original are unknown but, if you recognise it, please do contact the writer.
