A pair of vertical and horizontal milling machines that shared the same main column, knee, table and drive system, the TOS FV-20 (Vertical) and FH-20 (horizontal) were manufactured from the early 1970s onwards.
Both models used the same main column, knee, table and motor drive system. 1375 mm long and 300 mm wide, the table had 900 mm of longitudinal travel, 300 mm in traverse and 420 mm vertically. The 13 rates of table feed, driven by a separate 1.1 kW (1.5 h.p.) motor, were identical for the longitudinal traverse motions, these being 14, 20, 28, 40, 56, 80, 112, 1180, 250, 355, 500, 710, 1000 and 1400 mm per minute. As was normal for this class of miller, the 13 rates of vertical feed were set at far lower rates and ranged from 4 to 250 mm per minute. The time-saving rapid feed for the longitudinal and traverse directions was set at 2800 mm per minute - and vertically at 800 mm per minute.
Driven by a 4 kW (5.4 h.p.) the 12 spindle speed ran from 31.5 through 45, 63, 90, 125,180, 250, 255,500, 710, 1000 and 1400 r.p.m. No attempt was made to give the vertical model higher speeds - nor was any option offered to allow this. Full details of the speciation can be seen below for the FV-20 and on this page for the FH-20.
