Sheldon Type EL56.  This wonderfully well-preserved, little-used  single-tumbler 10-inch is complete with its original receipt showing a purchase date of September 27th, 1948

Sheldon 10-inch lathe with single-tumbler screwcutting gearbox as manufactured until 1947. A program of constant development resulted in a replacement model, distinguished by a twin-tumbler gearbox and many other modifications.
