Long known as makers of the very highest quality gear-manufacturing machinery, the Reishauer Company is based in Switzerland with factories operating in Germany, France, Japan, China, and the United States. Long an admirer of Swiss machine tools, the writer was chatting to a long-retired, ex-toolroom manager of a once-large English lathe-making company. He explained that although most of the all geared-head machines they manufactured were reasonably quiet-running, they were not as good as some of the competition - and some lathes noisier than others. It was only after he had persuade the management to invest in a trio of Reishauer gear-grinding machines that the problem was solved; fitted with gears produced on this machinery, all the company's lathes now ran quietly and there was no variation from one to another. Other machines made at the time of the NZA and OZA were the: Type ZB Gear grinding machine. Grinding worms are not profiled on this machine but on the dressing and profiling machine type AM. Type AM Dressing and profiling machine for grinding worms. One AM could provide up to six working gear grinding machines with grinding worms. Type US Universal thread and worm grinding machine for diameters and lengths of up to 200mm and 450mm respectively. Type UL Universal thread and worm grinding machine. The same as the Type US but for workpieces up to a diameter of 250mm. Type NRK Universal thread and worm grinding machine. Smaller and simpler than the Type US but able to be combined with a range of special attachments. Maximum diameter 200 mm and length 450mm. Type RAG Automatic thread grinding machine; this was especially suitable for serial work on workpieces with very fine to medium pitches (e.g. smallish taps, micrometer spindles, etc.). Type BS Thread chaser grinding machine. For grinding those and thread rolling dies and grinding grooves in plane surfaces. Type LD a special lathe with a distance between centres of 3500 mm dedicated to making accurate lead screws. Type FA a milling machine with an automatic indexing attachment for making milling cutters of all kinds, reamers, countersinks, ratchet wheels, etc..
