Panther "Marvel" Lathe - India Other Indian lathes include the REW, Deem, IEC, Coronet, Parmar, REW, & Savna
Manufactured in India by a Company formed in 1989, the Gujarat Lathe Manufacturing Company Pvt. Ltd - the ancient-looking "Panther" was still available in the early 2000s. An obvious copy of what be described as a classic design dating back to the early 1930s it was well specified and equipped with a full screwcutting gearbox and power sliding and surfacing feeds. The customer was able to specify a wide range of changes to the machine's specification including a choice of spindle bore, tailstock barrel travel, speed range, etc. The use of flat-belt drive is interesting and the system fitted to the Panther is reported, by its owner, to work both quietly and efficiently. Today the Gujarat Company still specialise in lathes and offer a wide range of modern, geared-head types in a variety of configurations.
