Myford Series 7 Lathe Shaping Attachment

Myford Home Page

Believed to have been constructed to mount on a Myford ML7 or Super 7 lathe, the origin of this attachment remains a mystery. Was it a commercial construction? Certainly, the extensive use of castings and a decent standard  of finish would point to that, but it is impossible to confirm.
Another mystery is how it was mounted. While the bottom of the two supporting columns are fitted with what appear to be long T-nuts to engage with the lathe's T-slotted cross slide, mounted in this way would mean that some sort of auxiliary work table must have been fitted. Was it driven by a remote motor, turning a pulley on the vertical shaft attached to the smaller spur gear?
Does anyone know more about this odd attachment? If so,
the writer would be very interested to hear from you..
