Details of other Myford 254 lathes here
The first set of photographs show an as-good-as-new 254V-Plus that had taken only taken trial cuts from new. Even though this 254V-plus had factory-specification speeds from 30 to 3000 r.p.m., the owner decided to update it with a new Newton Tesla Mitsubishi drive wired into the original control system.
The second set of pictures shows a particularly rare and unusual model of the 254, a standard "Plus" that retains the ordinary 8-speed belt and backgear drive system but retro-fitted by Myford with an inverter drive. This combination of belt, backgear and variable-speed control probably gives the best of all worlds as any set speed can be altered in tiny steps using the inverter.
