Meddings SF-12 Tool Grinding and Lapping Machine
Produced from the early 1960s onwards, the Meddings SF-12 tool grinding and lapping machine consisted of a centrally mounted, 2-speed 3-phase motor (that ran at 1500 and 3000 r.p.m.) with, at each end, a spring-mounted, tilting -slotted table. Tables could be moved in and out and across by means of micrometer-dial equipped screws with inclination - 20° for tools with a positive cutting and angle and 10° for those with negative rake - set accurately by means of a screw with the setting read from a dial. To allow both right or left-hand tools to be re-sharpened the motor was fitted with a reversing switch and coolant was supplied as part of the standard equipment, pipes being fitted that directed fluid to both wheels simultaneously. Fitted with plain wheels as standard (6" x 2" with a 65 mm bore) provision was also made to take cup carbide and diamond wheels by means of a separate hub..
