Early LYN Lathe

Do you have a LYN lathe ? If so the writer would
be very interested to hear from you

What must be a very early Lyn lathe. Flat-belt drive; a different tumble reverse mechanism, a tailstock with a No.1 instead of a No.2 Morse taper, a different tumble reverse mechanism, no handwheel on the end of the leadscrew, - step Flat belt pulley 2", 2 1/2" and 3" in diameter,  31/8" swing over the bed and a 41/2" swing in the gap, the spindle 1" threaded by 10 t.p.i. and changewheels that might not be the same at 16 DP with a 5/8" bore and 3/8" wide. Instead of the spindle running in bronze bearings, it turned direct in the cast iron of the headstock. This was a perfectly acceptable system for a small lathe -  tens of thousands of highly successful South Bend 9-inch Workshop lathes also being so equipped. When lubricated frequently with a light spindle oil such as Mobil Velocite 1 (and combined with the free graphite in the cast iron) a very long life can be expected.

Believed to be the first version of the Lyn lathe
