Lindner jig borers were manufactured by Herbert Lindner GMBH at Wittenau, Lubarser Strasse 8-30 in what used to be the Western Sector of Berlin during the 1950s and 1960s. Jig borers were, perhaps, an unusual offering from a Company better known for its wide range of thread and worm grinding machines, with models listed as the "Standard Type", G.U.S, GK, FS10 for larger diameter work, GL (long bed), GE for making small thread gauges (Model A) and small screw threads and taps (Model B), the GPA Automatic two-way, and the Hga heavy-duty model intended for grinding threads on a lathe. In addition, Linder also made a series of precision horizontal and tilting circular tables and jig boring cutting tools.
The jig borers LB14 and LB14A were but a pair of machines from the Company's range with with a smaller model, the LB12, a larger example, the LB15A and a later NR range also being offered. Full details of the LB14 models can be found at the bottom of this page.
It appears that Herbert Linder's interest designing and making jib borers began in the early 1930, a patent traced to Germany in 1934 (and to the USA in 1935/6) shows a machine with its head able to be rotated on a circular way - perhaps not the ideal solution to maintaining the great rigidity essential in a jib borer. The patent and its drawings are towards the bottom of
