Still available from Leven at $22,500, this tiny 13-inch long by 5.25-inch wide and 15-inch tall very high-quality, 4-speed unit takes standard Levin 8 mm collets. Intended only for very small work up to 1/8" (3.175 mm) in diameter it compliments the company's more recent and specialised 'Micro-Drilling Machine'. Lacking - like many similar drilla of this design - a normal down-feed by a quill and spindle, instead the table is lifted up and down by lever-operated rack and pinion gearing. To limit the table travel, a finely-adjustable screwed stop is provided and, in order to maintain the very necessary sensitivity of operation required when drilling such small holes, the hollow rack tube can be used to house an adjustable, spring-loaded weight to counterbalance anything carried on the (Meehanite) table. Running in precision, pre-loaded ball races, in addition to 8 mm collets, the spindle can also hold, when mounted on a suitable arbor, a small drill chuck such as an Albrecht like this. Drive comes from a rear-mounted 1/8 or 1/15 h.p. 1725 r.p.m. continuously-rated motor driving by a round leather or Polycord belt that runs upwards to pass over two adjustable-for tension jockey pulleys. The gives four speeds of 3450, 5200, 6000 and 9400 r.p.m. and, though ancient in design (but still entirely satisfactory for its intended task) is also used on many machines of far inferior quality such as Superior, Champion, Hamilton, Ruka and some versions of the lighter ones from Atlas..
