Not by a known machine-tool manufacturer, but made by Mr Joseph Harold McEwan (JHM) in his machine shop in the back yard in Deep River, Ontario, small town close to the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. plant at Chalk River. Consequently, the screwcutting "JR Micro-125" lathe is marked on its headstock speed plate, "DEEP RIVER, ONT". 20 inches long, the lathe is both backgeared and with power feed to the carriage - though if the headstock lacks backgear and hence the necessary slow speeds, this might make screwcutting something of a challenge for the inexperienced. With a swing of around 5 inches and taking perhaps 8 inches between centres, the lathe has a tumble-reverse mechanism to engage the changewheels and a dog clutch to control the stop and start of the leadscrew. The carriage is fitted with a proper compound slide-rest assembly with the top slide carrying a 4-way toolpost and able to rotate through 360°. A very fine effort that looks to have both a profession look to it and a fine cosmetic finish.
