Developed during the early 1960s as a kit lathe (simple-to-machine and simple-to-assemble) the tiny Honacast bar-bed lathe was sold by the makers from 185 Grand View Blvd. Yonkers NY for just $9.95 - post included. The teaching value of the simple 12-casting set was recognised by a local educational establishment, the Stuyvesant High School of New York, where boys were each presented with a kit and expected to machine and assemble their own example - it being claimed that over 300 hundred were completed. One wonders how many survive. Full details can be found in Popular Mechanics Magazine for January, 1965.
