Ewag WS11, WS11-FS & WS11-FP
Precision Grinding Machines for Fine Carbide Tools and Electrodes - Switzerland

A manual is available for the Ewag WS11

Not a general-purpose grinder, but one intended for use on small components, fine tools, gauges etc, made of tungsten carbide as found in watchmaking, mechanical instrumentation, camera, and similar industries. Using a diamond wheel for this work, the Ewag WS11 was an expensive, high-quality machine that is still in demand today. It was also intended for the grinding of electrodes with a special model, the WS11-FS, made for this single purpose; when equipped with an ordinary carborundum wheel, the WS 11 could also be used to grind parts in steel.
Versatile in its set-up, the machine could be used for relief, eccentric, spiral, radius, internal and cylindrical grinding in parallel and taper forms.
The longitudinal and vertical movements of the slides are carried in a rigid frame and run on pre-loaded enclosed 'ball-sleeve' ways.
The vertical grinding stroke is operated indirectly by a hand lever - which avoids any side loads on the grinding wheel - while the downward movement of the grinding wheel can be set to two pre-determined positions, this being archived by the provision of two micrometer-adjustable stops, one of which can be swung to one side.
Running in a high-precision, plain bearing, the main spindle has a carbide thrust bearing with each grinding wheel, together with its balanced adaptor, forming a single, concentrically-running unit that allows it to be swapped over quickly and easily
The work-spindle is fitted in a head that swivels with the job held in either a collet, a special arbor, a universal vice - or eccentric, spiral or radius grinding attachments. For cylindrical grinding, the work spindle is driven through a mechanical variator.
The work head can be swivelled in two planes at right angles; in the main plane, any angle may be set in 3° increments and, using a novel angle micrometer, to any 2' position. The rapid feed of the workpiece to the grinding wheel is effected manually - and the fine feed either manually or by foot lever.
A dust extraction unit is provided as part of the standard specification in the machine base with a knob provided, a few shakes of which causes the dust to fall into a collecting drawer.
