Manufactured in Belgium by Ateliers Demoor S.A. at Rue des Trois Fontaines Brussels-Forest, Demoor lathes were well-built and reliable lathes with numerous facilities to aid an operator in efficient working, e.g. by a "Magic Eye" setting of the spindle speed relative to the diameter of the workpiece being turned. As a consequence, their control system was relatively complex with numerous levers the operation of which is unclear unless the manual and catalogue are studied. Many versions were noted for the option of an especially wide-range screwcutting and feeds gearbox - the "PAFIN" - that allowed very fine pitches and feed rates to be generated.
The lathes were built in model sets, often with identical screwcutting and power-feed ranges but able to be ordered with a variety of centre heights, capacities between centres and, in some cases with motors of varying power. Other ranges, for example the extra heavy-duty types 824 to 827-H-100, had more diverse specifications, these being more in keeping with their work capacity and with such differences as the diameter and pitch of the leadscrew, a central bearing on the headstock spindle, the size and Morse taper fitting of the tailstock spindle and such fittings as bolts as well as eccentric locks to secure the tailstock in place.
