A rare survivor in splendid condition, this early 7.5-inch centre height Colchester has the earlier form of power sliding and surfacing feeds and, like most other models in the range, a spindle clutch (a facility lost on all post-WW2 models until 1960). The headstock drive on this example comes from a remote countershaft, the twin input pulleys being arranged to be of the "fast-and-loose" type where the drive could be instantly started and stopped by a shifter moving the belt from the "loose" pulley to the "fast". The distinctive spindle speed-change handwheel on the face of the headstock mark out this particular model as easily recognised.
