Armag Profiling (Cherrying) Head
by Zwicky Machines of Geneva (MFB)

A manual is available for the Armag Profiling Head

Now outdated by CNC-controlled machine tools, at one time the profiling or cherrying head was a useful device for the manufacture of complex shapes and die-sinking work. While other cherrying heads such as those by Bridgeport and Everede were large, self-contained units, the Armag was, by comparison, tiny and intended for smaller jobs.
Well built, the unit was built around a drop-forged body with all moving parts case hardened and bearings of the roller type. Although more normally used on a sturdy milling machine, the makers also suggested that it could be employed using a lathe or radial arm drill.
Operation of the Armag was by installing a template of the form required (these needed to be made) some 1/8" thick and made in steel or even nylon. The profile of the template was copied by a roller guide, with an ordinary boring tool used to machine the job.
The Armag could be had with either a No.2 or No.3 Morse taper (or others to special order) and was supplied in a wooden box with the operating instructions, 2 blank, 2 square and 2 hexagonal templates, tool-bit setting and grinding gauges, 2 tool holders 3 tool bits, 2 lock springs and the necessary wrenches. Full details are given below.
