From the appearance of the "artist's impressions" and photographs this lathe appears to be one by the East German company Schramm & Lichner. An early model was listed as the Model SL2a, later improved ones as the Model DML 200 x 500/850. Both seemed to have a centre height of 100 mm and a capacity between centres of 500 mm or, optionally, 850 mm. Manufactured during the 1950s in the former Democratic Republic of East Germany when it was occupied by Soviet communist forces, like a Series 7 Myford, the bed had flat ways, but with the tailstock guided by the third vertical surface in from the front being formed at an angle.
Unusually for such a small lathe, the headstock was geared type, lubricated from an oil bath by splash and having with 3-speeds. The No.2 Morse taper spindle, bored through to clear 14 mm, ran in roller-bearings, carried  a M33 x 3.5 mm pitch threaded nose and could take direct mount collets, a set of 23 being listed from 1 to 12 mm in steps of 0.5 mm
Interestingly, the 0.25/0.5 h.p. drive motor (with two electrical speeds) was combined with an an oil-bath lubricated 2-speed gearbox, drive to the headstock being by a pair of A-section V-belts running over a 2-step pulley. Combined with the three-speed headstock, this arrangement gave a useful range of twelve speeds that spanned a useful 90 to 1400 r.p.m. As an alterative, one specification offered six speeds, probably by offering a cheaper motor without the attached 2-speed motor. An underdrive cabinet stand was also offered - probably only on later models -  this having the motor mounted on a height-adjustable plate and driving, again using a pair of V-belts, direct to the headstock input spindle.
Unfortunately, in comparison with the lathe's otherwise robust build, the tailstock - which could be set over for taper turning, had a spindle with only a No.1 Morse taper. Although was compound slide rest assembly had exposed ways, its micrometer dials had easily-read read scales with graduations in 0.05 mm increments.
Screwcutting was through a tumble-reverse mechanism and changewheels - of which a generous set of twenty-four was provided to cover both inch pitches from 8 to 40 t.p.i and metric from 0.35 to 2.5 mm. .
The Schramm & Lichner model for bench mounting a required a space 1200 mm long, 500 mm front to back and 400 mm high and weighed 115 kg complete with all its equipment.
